Additional Charges
Additional charges are lines billed on the whole quote rather than on a part: a setup fee, shipping, a rush fee, a tooling charge. Each one has a description, an amount and a taxable setting.
Adding a Charge
- Open the quote.
- Scroll to the Additional charges section, below the parts.
- Click Add charge.
- Enter a description (for example, "Setup fee") and the amount.
- Leave Taxable checked if sales tax applies to the charge, or clear it for a charge that is not taxed.
- Click Save Quote.
Charges are saved with the rest of the quote. Until you click Save Quote, you can undo your edits with Discard, and Forge warns you before you leave the page with unsaved changes.
Editing, Reordering and Removing Charges
- Change a description or an amount directly in its row, then save the quote.
- Use the up and down arrows to change the order. Charges appear on the PDF in this order.
- Click the trash icon to remove a charge.
Every charge needs a description. Forge will not save the quote while a charge has an empty description.
How Charges Affect the Total
Amounts are in the quote's currency, the same currency as the part prices.
Subtotal = Sum of all Part Totals + Sum of all Charges
Tax = Calculated on the parts plus the taxable charges only
Quote Total = Subtotal + Tax
For example, with 1,000.00 of parts, a 150.00 taxable setup fee and 50.00 of non-taxable shipping for an Ontario client, Forge charges HST 13% on 1,150.00 (149.50), and the quote total is 1,349.50.
The cost bar at the bottom of the quote page includes the charges as soon as you type them, so you can see the effect before saving.
On the Quote PDF
On the PDF, the charges are listed under the parts subtotal and above the tax lines. A non-taxable charge is marked "(non-taxable)".
When the Quote Becomes a Job
The job's total is the quote total, so it already includes the charges. The job page lists them in an Additional charges section. Once a quote is converted to a job, its charges are locked along with the rest of the quote.
Duplicating a Quote
When you duplicate a quote, its charges are copied to the new quote with the same descriptions, amounts, taxable settings and order.
